How to Become a Tax Accountant?

If numbers are your game and you like accounting and finance, you can consider becoming a tax accountant. This is a good profession with a good annual income and many growth opportunities. However, first, you must know what education you must take, and what bodies you need to register with to become a tax accountant.  

Degrees – After finishing your year 12, you can enrol in for a Bachelor in Accounting & Finance or Bachelor of Accounting degree. These degrees are three years long. Be sure to do it from a good university. If you want to do more than just a bachelor’s degree, you can also opt for a 2-year Master of Professional Accounting degree. 

Institutions – In Australia, there are three accounting institutions with which all accounting professionals must register Certified Practising Accountants, Institute of Public Accountants, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia. You have to apply to be a member of any of these institutes before practicing accounting. 

Practice – Only after you have fulfilled the above criteria, you can start practicing as an accountant. You can get a job in an accounting firm or can become a freelance consultant. But before you branch out on your own, you need to get some experience. 

A tax accountant is a good job with a lot of stability. Once a person becomes an earning member of society, they have to contribute with taxes and to guide people on their tax liabilities, tax accountants will always be required.
